The variety of approaches that environmental history works is one of the features that transform it into a multidisciplinary field that seeks to integrate nature into human history. This characteristic enables there-reading of environmental imbalances in a historical key, attending to society-nature relations. With regard specifically to Latin America, the approach to the environmental as an object of historical study is still under development. The transformations produced over time by the interaction of man with nature, on the one hand, determines the growing socio-environmental conflicts in the area linked to the exploitation of the region's natural resources. This present study aims to explain the main characteristics of the first socio-environmental conflict in Argentine that focuses on the case of the project of the National Atomic Energy Commission to install a nuclear dump in the Patagonian town of Gastre (Chubut province).
